Lateral Canthoplasty

Lateral Canthoplasty

To make your eyes bigger
To horizontally elongate eyes.

Who is lateral canthoplasty suitable for?

  1. For those who wish to enlarge their eyes in an outward direction.
  2. For those who want to have longer eyes.

An explanation of lateral canthoplasty.

Lateral canthoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure in which the outer corner of the eye is widened through an incision, appropriate skin excision, and mucous membrane suture. This makes the eyes longer.

This surgery can be performed as a stand-alone procedure, but when combined with widening the lower eyelid, the effect is even greater and more attractive eyelids can be obtained.
With our lateral canthoplasty, the scar is hidden at the outer edge of the eye.

Features of our Lateral canthoplasty

  • For local anesthesia, we use 34G ultra-fine needles (needle thickness 0.2mm) to minimize pain.
  • Surface anesthesia and intravenous anesthesia are used for those who are afraid of even the slightest pain.
  • The day after surgery, you can shower, wash your face, and apply makeup except for on your eyelids.
  • Sutures can be removed on the fourth or fifth day because they are tightly sewn with 6-0 ultra-fine absorbable thread.Scarring will be minimal.
  • Skin suturing with transparent thread is also available.
  • You can apply makeup to your eyelids the day after your stitches are removed.

Lateral canthoplasty explained

Following the von Ammon method, an incision is made on the outside of the eye and the skin and conjunctiva are sutured. This gives the eye more length.Excess skin is trimmed after the incision to shape the outer corner of the eye.
The suture is internally treated with plastic surgical sutures using 6-0 ultrafine absorbable thread. This technique makes it less likely to revert to its original state.
We externally suture with non-absorbable ultra-fine thread.
We also offer external suturing with ultra-fine transparent thread.

Post-operative pain is usually very mild.We will prescribe a mild analgesic and anti-inflammatory drugs just in case.

How long will surgery last?

It will last about 60 minutes.

I have heard that lateral canthoplasty is less effective in some cases.

Surgeries aimed at enlarging the eyes include ptosis surgery, medial epicanthoplasty, and widening of the lower eyelid surgery. The effect of lateral canthoplasty is smaller than these surgeries.
If you wish to have longer eyes, lateral canthoplasty is performed.
During surgery, a 4-5 mms incision is made on the outer conner of the eye to enlarge the eye, however, post-operative retroversion occurs and the final effect will be about half.

Will there be any bruising?

Yes, there is sometimes bruising. If it appears on the skin, concealer can be used. If bruising appears on the sclera, it will take 1 to 2 weeks to clear.

How do you manage pain during surgery?

Pain will be minimal, because our local anesthetic contains extra agents to reduce any discomfort. To minimize injection pain, the amount of anesthetic used is kept to a minimum of 1-1.5 cc for both eyelids.
Pain is also minimized by using an ultra-fine 34G needle, as well as a new needle for each eyelid. The injection is administered slowly which minimizes pain.
For those who are still afraid of pain, we offer general anesthesia.Under general anesthesia, you will be comfortably unconscious and breathing as usual.
